Egyptian architecture was extremely revolutionary for its time period. The Egyptian Empire spanned from 3100 BC, King Mendes founds the first Egyptian dynasty, to 30 BC, when Egypt becomes a province of the Roman Empire. Throughout this time period, the Egyptians developed many new art styles and architecture. They were the first to use the design of a pyramid in architecture. The pyramids were used a graves for the deceased pharaohs. Many of the other temples that were built were temples to the Egyptian gods. Religion was very important to the Egyptians and they created many extravagant temples to honor them. Below are three examples of Egyptian architecture from the Egyptian Empire.

Abu Simbel was a temple honoring the sun god, Amon-Re. This temple is important because it exemplifies the advanced architectural design and artistry and their ability to enlarge the sculptures to a larger than life size.

The Pyramids of Giza, also know as the Great Pyramids, exemplify Egyptian architecture at its finest and is one of Egypt's most prized monuments to this day. The Pyramids were revolutionary because until modern times, they were the tallest standing structures. Also, the pyramid shape had never been used before. The closest shape in any previous structure were the step pyramids. The Pyramids took many years to build and complete. They are an outstanding example of Egyptian Architecture.
